Smiles start eyes adjusting,
We’re leaning over, kilter well off,
mast nails on sea walls.
Flares thrust asunder,
whiskers light shifting in shoulder,
hand raised to sky.
Black glass hides eyes, overbored.
Grist chest heaving inching
brow beaten and cowed.
Ether buzz of birds far off,
little hairs erupt in applause.
I am beside and watching
A vein rises shallow skin sun caulked.
Viscous thoughts have no place here
nor I, but my hand’s still reaching.
Flashes of father’s smile slides
ivory at blood moons waning
and I can’t forgive myself.
Grass bites calves in feigning wind
beating back and about again.
Fist grasping unto itself shaking
white face, blue eyes peeking
you are that wreck.
And you laugh with so much voice?
And I can hear all of it, I think.
